Lake San Marcos

LOCATION Lake San Marcos is located in the unincorporated area of San Diego County, approximately 5 miles east of the Pacific Ocean. The Pacific Ocean provides cool breezes with mild year round temperatures. A wind tunnel effect prevents smog from settling in our valley, coastal fog is rare, with most days being sunny and warm. HISTORY In 1927 the Clemson and Wells families purchased the land, and the dam was built at the South end of the creek in 1946, creating a 40 acre lake. In 1963 the Frazar Brothers purchased the property and reshaped the shore line and increased the lake size to its present 80 acres. They subdivided the surrounding property and over the years 2300+ homes in 22 Homeowner Associations have been built.  On a hill overlooking Lake San Marcos is a lighted “cross” that turns into a “star” at Christmas. RECREATION Lake San Marcos boasts an 18 hole, par 58, public Executive Golf Course; a private 18 hole, par 72, 6500 yard championship golf course, pro shop, putting green, driving range and a fine Country Club with restaurant and banquet facilities which is open to the public. The Recreational Facilities include an 80 acre Lake, Recreation Lodge called the “Pavilion”, club and billiard rooms, tennis and paddle tennis courts, two swimming pools, and beach and picnic areas. Virtual Tour of Lake San Marcos OWNERSHIP The 80 acre lake and recreational facilities are owned by Citizen’s Development Corporation (CDC) and are leased to the residents of Lake San Marcos. The 20 year leases are held by one of the 22 Homeowner Associations or are given individually to residents in the areas not governed by HOA’s. There are over 20 social clubs and a Community Association whose board members are elected and who’s membership is open to all property owners. Almost all areas of Lake San Marcos are controlled by CC&R’s and exterior building restrictions apply. COMMUNITY Lake San Marcos was originally marketed as a retirement community however very few age restrictions apply. The average age is about 60 years old and the community attracts retirees because of all the recreational amenities, golfing, boating and fishing, social clubs, activities, and 24 hour security in the area. Additionally there are many neighborhoods close by that attract young families, but Lake San Marcos attracts their parents because of the prevalence of single story homes, proximity to shopping, restaurants, and medical facilities. Lake San Marcos is simply a paradise island surrounded by an ocean of big city amenities.

I live in OCEANA off of El Camino Real. I am trying to find out what method your association uses to limit access to your recreation fascilities. I am particularly intereted in whether you use a code, a key card, a fingerprint or a metal key? If you could answer this for me I would appreciate it. Thank you
